Summer Fun

I know I have graduated and all, but as you guys probably all know, I can't stay away from running and all that jazz. But this time, I'm going to post something that doesn't 100% involve running, and that's cross training. I've posted a link to a great article below; there's some really good ideas in it to keep your legs fresh this entire summer!

Also, start thinking about starting your summer runs here soon if you haven't already. You guys will have incredible seasons with a strong summer base. Some of the older guys will be posting times to meet for summer runs soon.

Stay Cool, Stay Hydrated

The 2011-2012 Blog is re-dyed, rested, and ready to go. Be sure to check out information for suggested summer mileage (a tab at the top), and most of all, be sure to use the blog to meet up with other runners this summer. Coach Marino will pop in from time-to-time to see who is meeting up for summer runs. Any concerns? Contact the coach.

As you guys start running, be sure to stay cool and hydrated. With the recent heat wave in effect, it's more important than ever to carefully choose when you run and where you run. Running in the early morning before 11am or late in the evening after 7pm is ideal as the heat will be less intense at these times. Choose locations with lots of shade (think PARK) and access to water (again, PARK). If you're unable to run when it's cool, you may want to think about a membership at the Y where you can use the air-conditioned track. And most importantly, no matter where or when you run--STAY HYDRATED. Being hydrated doesn't mean downing two glasses of water right before the run; being hydrated means drinking many glasses of water all day, every day. Failing to do so can lead to injury or death--no joke.
